On the way to the "East Cape" we made a one night stop in "Opape". Before we arrived there we stopped many times to have a closer look on all the the beautiful bays we passed! In a small town called "Optiki" we were fascinated by an amazing panorama view all over the green landscape which is typical for New Zealand.
Finally we arrived at our campground in "Opape" where we spent our night. The nice beach next to us and the big waves that day made us a perfect day to test our new pink surfboard! In the night Jonas tried to capture the milky way again.
After a restful sleep we went on to our destination, the "East Cape" of New Zealand.
The bay "Hawai" was a very nice spot to take some very nice pictures.
In the evening we arrived at "East Cape Campground" which was a large green meadow with just one little wooden toilet (one of the best we had so far!).
The next morning the alarm woke us up at 4:50 because we wanted to see the sun rising as one of the first people in the world ("East Cape" has the first sunrise every day). But hearing the sound of heavy rain and storm in our tent we decided to stay in bed.
As we wanted to get to "Tolaga Bay" we spent the whole next day driving. When we arrived there at last we decided to stay for two nights to get a good rest. We took some photographs, went for a swim and just enjoyed the good weather.
Our next destination was "Gisborne" because we were running short of food. After our food shop at the supermarket we made our way to the little "Opoutama Beach Campground". There is only space for ten cars and we finally found ourselves surrounded by german backpackers only!
Auf dem Weg zum "East Cape" machten wir eine Nacht einen Stopp am "Opape Beach". Bevor wir dort ankamen mussten wir öfter anhalten, da es so viele schöne Buchten zu betrachten gab. In der kleinen Stadt "Opitiki", durch die wir fuhren, sahen wir das typische Bild Neuseelands. Einfach alles war grün!
Danach kamen wir am Campingplatz in Opape an. Dieser hatte einen riesigen weitläufigen Strand mit ziemlich hohen Wellen, weswegen wir direkt unser neues pinkes Surfboard ausprobiert haben.
Nach einer erholsamen Nacht verließen wir das "Opape Motorcamp“, um an unser Ziel das "East Cape" zu gelangen. Auf dem Weg dorthin machten wir in dem kleinen Dorf „Hawai" eine Fotopause.
Am Abend erreichten wir dann endlich den "East Cape Campground", eine riesige grüne Wiese mit einem sehr kleinen aber feinen hölzernen Plumpsklo (eines der besten die wir bis jetzt hatten!).
Am nächsten Morgen klingelte uns der Wecker um 4:50 wach, da wir als einer der ersten Menschen den Sonnenaufgang sehen wollten (am "East Cape" geht jeden Morgen die Sonne als erstes auf der Welt auf). Aber als wir aufwachten hörten wir nur starken Wind und Regen auf das Zelt prasseln - also blieben wir liegen.
Später am Morgen sind wir dann aufgebrochen um zur "Tolaga Bay" zur gelangen, wir entschieden uns dort 2 Nächte zu bleiben um uns ein bisschen auszuruhen.
Die nächste Station war dann die größere Stadt „Gisborne", da wir keine Essenvorräte mehr hatten und einkaufen mussten. Nach dem Einkaufen ging es dann weiter auf den "Opoutama Campground", der nur Platz für 10 Autos hatte. Dort angekommen merkten wir direkt, dass wir mit zehn weiteren Deutschen alleine auf dem Platz waren.
